With all these advantages, one would wonder why more people are not taking advantage of this alternative fuel. One of the current disadvantages of biodiesel is that it is a small more expensive, and a small less available for public consumption. Also, the production of biodiesel requires a significant amount of arable land use, since plant material is used in its production. There is also some evidence of increased nitrogen oxide emission from biodiesel vehicles, and slightly lower mileage. Finally, biodiesel since of its chemical nature will not easily flow at lower temperatures, making it use in colder climates sticky. A fuel blend is made from mixing 1 quart of oil at $ 1.25 per quart with 3 gallons of gasoline at $ 2.15 per gallon. What is the cost (to the nearest cent) of a gallon of fuel mixture

I’m not sure how to set up this equation. I am a bit confused since it’s using quarts and gallons. I know that in one gallon there are 4 quarts.

This econometric study covers the world outlook for aviation gasoline, finished base stocks, and blending agents excluding jet fuel crosswise more than 200 countries. For each year reported, estimates are given for the latent demand, or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.), for the country in question (in millions of U.S. dollars), the percent share the country is of the region and of the globe. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a country vis-à-vis others. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each country and crosswise countries, latent demand estimates are made. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific fine points at the product level. The study also does not consider small-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved. This study does not report real sales data (which are austerely unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the 230 countries of the world). This study gives, but, my estimates for the worldwide latent demand, or the P.I.E., for aviation gasoline, finished base stocks, and blending agents excluding jet fuel. Looking for an answer to why my 91 explorer starts bad, runs ruff and wants to die, when it has ANY blended 10 % unleaded fuel put in it? I have proven this to be the problem. I use non-ethanol fuel, guess what NO PROBLEM>

Want to know one reason why gasoline prices are so high? This map. Since different parts of the country have different gasoline additive requirements gasoline is no longer homogenous. Having a heterogenous commodity for no reason other than government fiat gives various oil companies and refineries market power. Market power means higher prices.

That being said, this isn’t the only factor, nor is it the largest factor. But it is, in theory, one we may possibly fix. Having fewer blends would reduce market power and hence lower prices. Of course, you’d oppose this thought if you lived in say, Wyoming which has not such blend requirement. And you’d likely want your Senator and Representatives to try and water down/kill any such legislation. Which is why using the political administer to allocate resources always facility so well.[/sarcasm]
